Ode to an Alcoholic

Sobriety brings me

To the brink of insanity

Waking sorely yelling

Only profanity

Waiting until I can

Break this fast

And then drunkenly

Swearing it’ll be my last

Arriving home, not sure

How I made it there

Awaking in the lawn

Wearing only my underwear

Crawling myself in

The front door,

Awaking in the morning

Only to go to the liquor store

Knowing I have a problem

But don’t know how to quit

So, my wife left me because

My life wasn’t shit.

So, I ask you my

Friend what do I do

As I sit on a barstool

And order another brew.
